The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife Catchable Rainbow Trout Program is a statewide initiative aimed at providing recreational fishing opportunities for anglers of all ages. Under this program, the Division of Wildlife stocks public lakes and ponds with catchable-size rainbow trout—typically around 10-13 inches long.
One of the program’s goals is to promote fishing as a family-friendly outdoor activity, to introduce new anglers, including children, to the sport of fishing in an accessible and enjoyable way.
Each spring, the ODNR stocks designated public waters across Ohio with rainbow trout. These waters are typically smaller, easily accessible bodies of water, making them ideal for youth and beginner anglers. Crystal Lake will be stocked the day prior to Kids’ Fishing Day, and as at the past two years’ events, no fishing will be permitted from stocking day until Kids' Fishing Day begins on April 12.
Fishing Regulations: Anglers aged 16 and older are required to have a valid Ohio fishing license to participate. Younger anglers do not need a license.
